BIG DEER CONTEST

2011 Big Deer Contest Results

Another deer season has come to a close. Once again this year we had over 80 entrants participate in our annual Big Buck / Whopper Doe Contest.

Up and down temperatures, full moons, and high winds seem to have kept many of us from seeing a lot of deer, especially the big ones. Still, we received a number of entries; all very nice deer.

This was the first year that we've sponsored a "Whopper Doe" division in the contest. We had only two entries this time; we hope to see much more next year!

WHOPPER DOE WINNER
Bill Campbell of Essex Manufacturing
took the larger of the two.
It weighed in at 164 lbs live weight (before field dressing).

THIRD PLACE
in the Big Buck division goes to Bob Davis of Sunnen Products.
You may recognize Bob as the first place winner from the 2009 contest.
Bob's early season archery deer was our first entry this year.
It's a tall racked buck with a drop tine on one side.

SECOND PLACE
in the Big Buck division goes to Gene Weilbacher of Covidien.
Gene took this buck late in the year using his muzzle loader in Illinois.

FIRST PLACE
in the Big Buck division goes to Greg Will of Hydro-Gear.
Also from Illinois, Greg took this big 150" 8 pointer during the firearm season.
You may remember Greg as our winner in 2008.
This deer's antlers combine height, width, and mass to create quite an impressive sight.

Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who sent in an entry. We hope everyone participates again next year.

We welcome any input you may have to make the contest more fun. Feel free to forward any suggestions to mikec@bcmac.com.

Thanks to Reggie and Ted MacDonald for sponsoring the contest again this year.

Thanks to all of you who participated. While it's fun to see the big deer that are taken (and hopefully take one, eventually), that's not the only reason we take to the woods each year.

Finally, thanks to everyone who contributed to "Share the Harvest" or similar programs in other states. It's a great program that allos us to enjoy the activity of hunting and help our neighbors who need a hand.
See you next year!
